Poland Township Park Director

The Poland Township Park was established in 2005 on wooded and reclaimed land owned by Republic Services and is leased to Poland Township for $1.00 a year. Volunteer workers have spent numerous hours over the years clearing areas for the ongoing development of the Park. The 107-acre Park is Poland's gem located in the eastern part of the Township. The area of the Park includes dense forest, forest edge, a somewhat rocky prairie, grassland, and some marshy land. There is something of interest in the Park for everyone.

The support of the Park does not rely on tax money and is funded by donations. The Poland Township Trustees govern it with support from the Township Park Advisory Board.

Picnic Pavilion

Oak Grove Picnic Pavilion can be reserved by calling the Poland Township Government Office during regular business hours: M-F 8:00 am- 4:00 pm. Electrical outlets were added to the pavilion in 2018, and charcoal grills were installed in the summer of 2019.

Since 2010, visitors have enjoyed a playground near the Oak Grove Picnic Pavilion.

Tree Identification

The Tree Identification Trail program started in 2008 and continues to grow yearly. In 2008, 33 species of trees were discovered in the Park. An additional 37 species have been planted To diversify the woodland areas. Over 40 trees have identification signs. The largest and oldest trees are marked with legacy signs.

Birdwatching

As of 2023 we have identified 189 species of birds have been identified in the Park, making it the second rated in Mahoning County for bird watching. Bird watchers share their sightings on https:/ebird.org.

Daffodil Trails

More than 17,000 daffodil bulbs have been planted along the nature trails since 2008, creating a beautiful sight in early spring.

Gardens

Butterfly gardens have been established to protect and promote the Monarch Butterflies. Fern and Hosta gardens have also been planted for viewing enjoyment.

A one-acre Botanical Garden is under development.

Soccer Fields

The Poland Soccer Association maintains 11 fields that were opened in 2007. Hundreds of soccer players utilize the fields during soccer season. All PYSA Youth Games are held at the Soccer Fields located here. The Poland Township Park fields are also the home fields for PYSA's Travel Program.

Hiking Trails

Hikers and walkers enjoy the sights along the trails during all four seasons. A variety of wild animals can sometimes be spotted while exploring the trails. There are 1.5 miles of hiking trails in the woodland areas of the Park.

Cross Country Course

The Cross Country Course opened in 2019, with fifteen school districts participating. The 5K course is used by high school runners and is marked for 2 miles for middle school. The course is uniquely designed in a spiral, allowing spectators to view 80% of the race from one point on the hill.

Sled Riding Hills

The hills opened for sled riding in 2018 for the thrill of a fun winter activity for the entire family. Open every day - Sunrise to Sunset.

Park Information

Alcoholic beverages, open fires, ATVs, off-road motorized vehicles, and horses are NOT permitted in the Park. The Park is equipped with security surveillance cameras. Open every day - Sunrise to Sunset.

The daffodils will bloom soon at the park and will be in bloom for few weeks after they start—a lovely woodland display for your viewing pleasure.

PARK ADDITIONS

Some new 2023 additions to the Park include a sand volleyball court, Corn hole game, Gaga court, and additional security cameras.

EARTH DAY

The park planted many trees in 2023 — 100 evergreens were planted around the park on Earth Day by volunteers.
